A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.
Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) Practical experience, clearly demonstrating a high level of understanding and competence in the practices, construction methods, techniques and the systems applied in the 148 full spectrum of the engineering field.
Knowledge of contract building law to the extent applied in the profession.
Recommendations: Computer literacy, ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision and willingness to travel and work irregular hours.

Key Performance Areas: Design new systems to solve practical engineering challenges and improve efficiency and enhance safety:- Plan, design, operate and maintain engineering projects.
Develop cost effective solutions according to standards.
Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings and procedures to incorporate new technology.
Develop tender specifications.
Ensure through evaluation that planning and design by others is done according to sound engineering principles and according to norms and standards and code of practice.

Human capital development: Ensure training and development of technicians, technologists and candidate engineers to promote skills/knowledge transfer and adherence to sound engineering principles and code of practice.
