Pretoria – Young people have been called to participate in the Youth Walk in the City of Tshwane as part of the celebrations of Youth Day.
“In pursuit of the Youth Month theme, we encourage youth to wear sneakers on Youth Day and participate in the Youth Walk taking place in the City of Tshwane, as a way of signifying or acknowledging their role in achieving the vision of this country,” acting Cabinet spokesperson Phumla Williams said on Thursday.
This year marks 39 years since the 16 June 1976 Uprisings and 21 years since South Africa attained freedom.
The theme for this year’s youth month celebrations is “Youth Moving South Africa Forward”.
Young people are also encouraged to follow the pledge #YouthPledge2015 on Twitter and share their ideas on how they Move South Africa Forward.
The official hashtag for Youth Month celebration is #YouthMonth2015.
“Throughout Youth Month, Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers will embark on outreach programmes focusing on the youth across the country. Government calls on the youth to participate and contribute in the dialogues,” Williams said.
The main Youth Day celebration will be held on 16 June at the Pretoria Showgrounds in the City of Tshwane.
The day will start with an inter-faith prayer session led by young religious leaders at Freedom Park, followed by a Youth Walk from Freedom Park to the Tshwane Events Centre where the main event will commence. – SAnews.gov.za
